Upcoming events at Klamath County Museums
Total Lunar Eclipse – A gathering to view a total eclipse of the moon will be offered from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20, at the Klamath County Museum. Totality begins at 8:40 p.m., and ends at 9:42 p.m. Telescopes will be available for viewing. Activity geared toward youngsters will help explain how eclipses happen. Free event.
1860s Days – Annual living history program runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9 at the Klamath County Museum. Demonstrations by the Klamath Spinners and Weavers Guild and the Cascade Civil War Society. Free admission.
“Search for Mercury” – Astronomy event with an emphasis on viewing the planet Mercury. 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23. Location tba.
“Earthshine Party” – Astronomy event view earthshine on a new moon. 6 p.m. March 9. Location tba,
Women in Local History – A program on selected women who were prominent in local history will be presented at 10 a.m. and again at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 31, at the Baldwin Hotel Museum, 31 Main Street. Free admission.
History Fitness Hike – Five-mile guided hike from Fort Klamath to Kimball State Park. Saturday, May 4. $25 fee. Details tba.
Native Plant Walk – A guided walk around the museum’s native plant gardens, which feature more than 100 species of plants native to the Klamath Basin. 10 a.m. March 11. Free event.
Native Plant Sale – Sale of nursery-grown plants native to Eastern Oregon. Fundraiser for the Museum and the Native Plant Society. 9 a.m. to noon May 18 at the Klamath County Museum.
Spring Astronomy Day – Celebration of amateur astronomy. May 11. Free event. Location tba.
Heritage Days – Annual living history encampment at Fort Klamath Museum on Highway 62. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 25-26. Free admission.
Baldwin Hotel Museum opens – Museum at 31 Main St. opens Saturday, May 25, for the summer season. Hours 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday.
“Mercury Meets Mars” – Astronomy event focusing on conjunction of planets Mercury and Mars. June 21. Location tba. Free event.
